Dr Juliet Dukes

Dr Juliet Dukes is FRAME’s Research Manager.

Dr Juliet Dukes manages the research that FRAME funds, running the Innovation Grants and Summer Studentships, and coordinates FRAME’s activity with the FRAME lab at the University of Nottingham Medical School.

After her PhD in Zoological Genetics at the Institute of Zoology, Zoological Society of London, Juliet pursued a varied career in scientific academic research and teaching, using genetic and molecular techniques in neuroscience, veterinary virology and human cancer. She then combined her lifelong interest in animals – and the way humans interact with them – with the emerging evidence about animal sentience to lead the RSPCA’s Tertiary Education Programme within their Science and Policy Group.

Juliet has extensive experience in supporting students, academics, Doctoral Colleges, Universities and their Animal Welfare and Ethical Review Bodies to develop their 3Rs and animal ethics training, and joined us in 2022. She is very happy to be a part of FRAME, helping the next generation of life-science researchers to become truly independent thinkers – conducting research to a genuinely high standard – challenging the status quo and making appropriate and ethical choices that minimise the suffering of other species while improving the quality of science.
