Summer Studentship Winners 2023

We are delighted to introduce our 2023 Summer Studentship winners!

We have once again received a range of diverse and interesting applications for our popular Summer Studentship Scheme this year, and we have three fantastic winners being awarded a total of £11,800 to complete their short summer projects!

Bobbi Anderson at the University of Strathclyde

Bobbi Anderson is a Biomedical Sciences Student at the University of Strathclyde. Her project will look at the effects of genetics on breast cancer and in particular how mutations in different DNA repair genes affect patient responses to chemotherapy drugs.

Roma Fraser at the University of Strathclyde

Roma Fraser is an Immunology and Pharmacology student at the University of Strathclyde. In her research this summer, Roma is hoping to demonstrate how human or synthetic serum can replace animal-serum and provide a more ethically and scientifically robust alternative, when testing new nanomaterials for toxicity.

Konstantina Skandali at the University of Surrey

Konstantina Skandali is a final year Biomedical Sciences Student at the University of Surrey. Her project will be growing 3D cell cultures, called spheroids, incorporating two cell types from blood vessel walls, to investigate how the dengue virus causes leaky blood vessels, a serious condition which can lead to organ failure.

We wish all three students the best with their summer research and will share updates as their work progresses!

It’s down to our amazing supporters that we can fund such incredible research.
